Johannesburg born writer Fiona Melrose released her debut novel Midwinter on November 2 with Little Brown imprint Corsair.

Set over the course of a particularly gruelling winter in Suffolk, Midwinter follows father and son Landyn and Vale, who are both farmers, as they tackle their memories of Vale's deceased mother and their unresolved grief and guilt. Melrose, who has spent time in the UK but is now largely based in South Africa, has gained adoring reviews from critics and readers alike. The Financial Times described Midwinter as 'elegant' and 'moving', while the Express called it 'beautifully perceptive'. Melrose, now working on her second novel, is definitely one to watch.
